Dear Parents and Staff:
We are reaching out to inform you of a cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, our district’s student information system provider. On December 28, 2024, PowerSchool became aware of unauthorized access to certain information through their customer support portal, PowerSource. Following an investigation, it was determined that an unauthorized party accessed student and educator personally-identifiable information using a compromised credential. Unfortunately, PowerSchool notified us yesterday that the breach included data from our district.
The accessed information relates to staff and students within our district. PowerSchool has informed us that the breach is contained, and they have no evidence of malware or continued unauthorized activity within their environment.
PowerSchool has further assured us that:
● They have taken all appropriate steps to further prevent the exposure of information affected by this incident.
● The unauthorized access point has been secured, and there is no evidence of continued activity.
● They do not anticipate the data being shared or misused, and they believe it has been deleted without any further replication or dissemination.
We are working closely with PowerSchool to address this situation and ensure all necessary steps are taken to protect our community. To safeguard affected individuals, PowerSchool will provide credit monitoring for adults and identity protection services for minors. We will share more details about these services as soon as they become available.
We remain dedicated to safeguarding the data of our students and staff. While PowerSchool is responsible for this incident and its impact, out of an abundance of caution, we felt it important to notify our stakeholders. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this issue.
